3 Ways To Drink More Water

Sunday, March 27, 2016

After a little research it is apparent that nobody really knows where the saying that you need to drink 8 cups of water per day comes from. Some people trace it back to a study in the 1980's, and other people claim that doctors starting telling people that amount because it was a good goal, but didn't have any scientific research to back it up with.

Either way, the point is clear, water does wonders for your body, and your brain. Water is well known to cleanse your body of harmful chemicals through your intestines and also throughout your urine tract. Without proper water intake, our bodies break down very quickly, in a matter of days. Without food, however, some people can live for a week or two. That just shows how important water is to our bodies.

Here are 3 quick tips for taking in more water.

1. Always have water available.

I like to buy the 12 ounce bottles of water and keep them in the fridge. Whenever I go to the gym I grab a bottle. On my way out the door to work, I grab a bottle. Before a trip that will be 30 minutes or longer, I grab a bottle. When I watch a movie, I grab a bottle.

Whenever I am sitting watching TV or a movie, I will keep the bottle in my hand with the lid off. I take a lot of little sips until the bottle is gone. A great way of making sure you drink more water is to make sure it is easily accessible.

2. Keep it cold.

I don't know many people who like to drink room temperature water, I sure don't. If you keep your water cold, you will drink more. I make sure there is always ice in my freezer, this make it very easy to have a cold glass of water anytime.

3. Chose water in restaurants.

Whenever I go out to eat, I always drink water with some lemon. The lemon adds a little spunk to the taste and the water is always nice, cold and refreshing. After a short time you will stop craving your old drink of choice and will begin to appreciate the taste, or lack of taste, that water provides.

Give water a shot and your body will be thankful!

Eating Healthy In A Fast Food World

Rushing to Eat

People’s lives have become so busy and rushing around, that we no longer eat the way we should. In some places, there is a McDonald’s on every major corner, if not some other fast food restaurant. Watching TV, you see a commercial for some kind of food place almost every time commercials are on, urging you to eat there because it’s good and you can get it fast and cheap.

With so many distractions and obligations, families have these days, how do you eat healthy in a fast food world? It’s not an easy thing to do but is possible with planning and knowing what to look for. This isn’t to say fast food can’t be consumed occasionally, but it should be less often than people are doing it now. Not to mention that our food is so processed that it takes five minutes to cook and has high carbohydrates among other things that are not digested quickly. This is leading to obesity in the population.

The Truth About Whole Grain

Because food is so processed these days to make it faster to cook, as well as more convenient for the way our lives have become, it is actually not as good for you as it once was. Recently the food administration even changed the food pyramid to coincide with how we eat these days and food is made. They are suggesting more whole grains than ever before, as well as vegetables. This may sound like what has been told to children for years, but even whole grains are deceiving on packaging these days. With all the new diets out there for low carb, no carb, low fat, no fat, etc., foods are coming out that say whole grain but are just as processed as its white counterpart. They are made with enriched wheat. This process takes out all the nutrients and other things that take time to digest for a healthy life. Reading the ingredient is a good way to find the real whole grain product. They are now more expensive than the over processed product because manufacturers could make the enriched version cheaper and faster. To eat healthy you have to read the labels of everything you consume.

Healthy Choices at Fast Food Eateries

The truth is that you really can’t eat healthy at any fast food restaurant. They aren’t designed for those trying or needing to watch what they put in their mouth. But you can make better decisions. Don’t’ eat the bread if you can stand not too. It’s along the lines of the South Beach Diet but that’s where lots of your weight gaining properties are. Don’t get anything fried, this includes French fries, onion rings, or even fried chicken. Get a diet pop, tea, or water. Avoid the desert and the salad, both have sugar in them and I don’t just mean in the toppings. Watch “Super Size Me” for a real eye opener. The show is on McDonald’s but you can bet that all fast food restaurants are basically the same. Limit how often you eat fast food to once per week, if that fast. Get a wrap at Subway instead of a toasted sub. Less bread and just as filling with all the fixings you want. When you get pizza, get vegetables on it so you aren’t just eating bread, sauce, cheese, and pepperoni. Remember just how bad fast food is for you, your waistline, and your cholesterol. Even if you are fifteen, you should be thinking about how it will affect you later in life. Starting early will make it easier on your body as you age.

Eating at Home

The best thing to do is find a way to cook meals most nights of the week. This can take planning and team work. Have at least one non-meat dish every week. It doesn’t have to be fish or seafood either. Don’t use fast cooking rich to go with your meals. Those are again loaded with carbohydrates, which take your body longer to break down and will make you hungry sooner than you should be. Plan weekly meals so that you can cook casseroles and other easy to reheat dishes early in the week for days you will not have time to cook. Utilize your crock-pot and get a recipe book for it. You can make just about anything in a crock pot these days and have a good meal when you get home. Have salad a few times a week with dinner, but watch how much dressing you put on it. Have desert, but make it Jell-O. Indulge once in a while to though and it won’t feel like you are depriving yourself of anything.

Your Tummy Fat Could Be Killing You!

Tuesday, July 22, 2014

Tummy fat. Some of us have it, others don't. Is there anything special about a big belly compared to a large bottom? Well, surprisingly, not all body fat is created equal! According to a study carried out by researchers from MacMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario it seems that gauging your heart attack risk depends on where your fat is, rather that how much fat you have.

These types of findings are not unique to MacMasters. Dr David Heber, Ph.D., from UCLA’s Centre for Human Nutrition reports that distribution of body fat is a more important predictor of heart attack risk than the traditional measurement of Body Mass Index (BMI), which is a measurement based on the ratio between your height and weight.

It appears that a more accurate predictor of the impact body fat has on your health, is your overall body shape. You may be more like an apple or a pear, or evenly shaped top and bottom. You may have large thighs, fat hips and a huge bum and have a lower heart attack risk than someone with skinny legs and a big belly.

A more accurate and telling predictor of heart attack risk, is the waist-to-hip ratio.

What is your waist-to-hip ratio?

Divide your waist measurement by your hip measurement. For example, if your hips measurement is 40 inches and your waist is 34 inches your hip-to-waist ratio is 0.85. If you are a man, that's great, if you are a woman, that's OK (but you are right on the limit of healthy).

- A man's ratio should not be over 0.90

- A woman's ratio should not be over 0.85

Don’t fight nature

If you were born an apple you will stay an apple and if you were born a pear you will continue to be appear. Accepting your natural body shape is the first step in losing weight. In a study led by Glasgow, Scotland, psychologist Dorothy Hefferman, Ph.D., researchers concluded that women whose actual body shape differs from their desired one may find losing weight frustrating and have more trouble sticking to a weight-loss program as a result.

If this sounds like you, accept your overall shape as nature intended, but pay attention to reducing fat around your middle and tummy areas. Circumference is much more important to your health than how you look in relation to your bust and bottom.

Milk, yes or no?

Friday, February 17, 2012

Milk and dairy products are another food group about which much has been said, and about which opinions are divided. On the one hand, assured us that milk is good and very healthy food, and we advise others to avoid it, or even completely out of my diet.

What this is, why such a rule completely different opinions, and ultimately who to believe - whether or not to drink milk?

Raw milk, farm fresh milk that is not industrially processed, natural and healthy food, and all dairy products made from raw milk. An excellent source of nutrients, but also a very important beneficial bacteria, such as lactobacteria, which we now know to play a crucial role in boosting immunity and protecting the body from various diseases states. An excellent source of vitamins, minerals and enzymes, and contains valuable proteins.Raw milk and products from it are actually perfect and  natural foods for humans.

So what's the problem?

The problem is in the industrial processing of milk. As is the case with many other foods, industrial processing of milk destroys this extraordinary food and gives it a completely different properties. Milk we buy in stores is pasteurized and homogenized. Pasteurization is a process in which milk is heated to high temperatures to destroy bacteria in it.

Pitfalls of the most popular diets for weight loss
This at first glance may seem okay, knowing that the pathogenic bacterium causes various illnesses. However, pasteurization completely changes the structure of milk and milk instead of becoming a safe and beneficial to use, it actually becomes something else entirely.

In addition to heating at high temperatures kill pathogenic bacteria, it kills the beneficial lactobacteria, as well as many other nutritional components. High temperature completely changes the structure of milk protein sensitive to denature and become very difficult to digest and harmful for health.

Pasteurization destroys enzymes completely from milk that are needed for the breakdown and digestion of milk decreases the vitamin, denatured milk proteins, destroys vitamins B12 and B6, vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin C, prevents the absorption of calcium, kills beneficial bacteria and promotes pathogens.

Could it be worse? Leave the raw milk at room temperature, not spoil it, but you get the sour milk, a very healthy food. This is because the beneficial bacteria in raw milk under control bad bacteria. However, pasteurized milk has beneficial bacteria that keeps it from rotting.

Denatured milk proteins due to their structure is very difficult to digest, and are, moreover, in pasteurized milk, enzymes, and destroyed all useful lactobacteria that help breakdown and digestion of milk components.Because of these problems, the industry treated milk is one of the most common allergen and is associated with a variety of symptoms and disease states, such as digestive disorders, allergies, colic in infants, tooth decay, osteoporosis, arthritis, problems in growing children, recurrent ear infections in children , heart disease and cancer.

On the other hand, when the raw milk does not have these problems, but just the opposite and people who have for years been allergic to milk usually can not tolerate raw. Raw milk is one of the healthiest and most complete food that can be consumed and so different from industrially processed that these two foods would not be called a common name.

With pasteurization began twenties of the last century, a time when there were frequent tuberculosis and other infectious diseases caused by the poor state of health of animals and poor hygienic conditions and production methods. Times have changed and today is used in stainless steel tanks, milking machines and systems for cooling, and the strictest sanitary inspection, which pasteurization becomes completely unnecessary. Since pasteurization is used only by the industry as pasteurized milk prolongs shelf life.

Dangerous substance that damages the digestion
Another process where the milk is exposed to the homogenization, fat molecules break under pressure, to prevent the formation of cream on milk. This is also a very unnatural process because the fat that gets no more its natural structure. In addition, the milk is removed  fat, so its buying milk contains little fat. Only thanks to a campaign against the natural fat and aggressive propaganda of light products, the industry managed to free the industrial surplus that remains after skimming cream intended for the production of other dairy products, and managed to market the products of poor quality grease.

Today, the stores can get nonhomogenized milk, but any money to spend, the milk is pasteurized, even that which is called fresh. The difference between 'fresh' and 'permanent' in the temperature and time in which the milk is exposed in the process of pasteurization. Fresh milk is heated to approximately 60 to 70 degrees, usually 30 minutes, while long-life milk is heated to temperatures over 100 degrees, making it even more prolonged duration.

There are further problems of antibiotics, pesticides and growth hormones, and the fact that almost all commercial feed cows grain instead of grass-fed, which is their natural food. All of this changes the composition of fat in milk. The natural food for the cows that give milk is green grass in spring, summer and autumn, and winter hay. Vitamins A and D are required for optimal assimilation of minerals and are largely present in the milk of cows that graze on grass. However, vitamins A and D are reduced drastically if the cows feed grains and soybeans.

Demand creates supply and making us a more natural look that fresh milk and meat of animals that live freely and graze on green pastures, the faster the manufacturers have to adapt to consumer demands. The future is in our hands because we are the ones who decide where we invest their money and what products we buy, and the market depending on the customer. Help for small local producers who are engaged in raising cattle, poultry, vegetables and fruit a bit, so you'll buy their products.

Chocolate is healthy if you did not know ...

Study recently conducted by nutritionists, biochemists and physicians, indicating that the connection between the flavonoids found in chocolate and fine muscle layer of blood vessels.

Although summer offers plenty of healthy and fresh foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs, many of us crave "artificial" energy sources. We can always opt for water, juices and cold teas, but there is a (not so small) opposition group of women who, instead of the wealth of vitamins and fiber, and even chooses to fly the famous products of cocoa beans. In the black beverage or dairy bars would not be discussed again in a negative context (counting calories and saturated fatty acids), we bring good news to all choco-addicts.

Study recently conducted by nutritionists, biochemists and physicians, indicating that the connection between the flavonoids found in chocolate and fine muscle layer of blood vessels. Indirectly, the flavonoids from the seeds of cocoa tree has a beneficial effect on our body as it relaxes the blood vessels (to prevent loss of elasticity), which can help prevent some of their disease. Interestingly, the knowledge of the products is growing up steadily, and today is widely known that the black - for cooking, with a higher percentage of cocoa healthier while she dairy, gift you like to give milk rich in fat, simple sugars and her lack of valuable flavonoids.

In the end, of course we must not generalize about the benefits of a general picture, but the results are promising at least for now, and although it would be premature to say that dark chocolate is becoming a universal remedy for diseases of the heart and blood vessels, we can safely say that it will become even more interesting foods that will (knowing our eating habits and hedonism expressed) in the Serbian culinary world just to experience the expansion.
